- Handling and Safety: Labels communicate crucial handling instructions, such as fragile warnings, orientation arrows (“This Side Up”), and special storage requirements. They also provide safety information, including chemical warnings and hazardous material designations.

- A-A-59495: This is a commercial item description (CID) that covers the material properties of the label itself. It specifies the requirements for pressure-sensitive adhesive labels and their ability to resist abrasion, moisture, and extreme temperatures.
- MIL-STD-130: This standard governs identification marking of U.S. Military property. While traditionally focused on marking the items themselves, it has become increasingly relevant to RFID as tags are used for serialization and unique item identification (UID) in accordance with this standard.
- ASTM D4727: This standard, which is often referenced in military contracts, covers the performance of paper and paperboard labels. It defines requirements for the label’s face stock, adhesive, and ink receptivity.
